How to Check Your Scrip Balance on ICEGATE
Before you sell a scrip, apply one against duty, or trust a rate, you need to know what you actually hold: the face value, the balance left, and the status. All of it sits in one place on ICEGATE. Here is how to read it.
Where your scrip balance lives
Every RoDTEP and RoSCTL scrip you have earned is recorded as an e-scrip in the Electronic Duty Credit Ledger on ICEGATE, tagged to your IEC. The ledger shows each scrip's number, its scheme, its face value, the balance still available on it, its expiry, and its current status. That single view is the authoritative record of what you hold. There is no separate statement to reconcile against.
Face value versus balance
Two numbers matter and they are not the same. Face value is what the scrip was issued at. Balance is what is still unutilised on it after any duty already applied. A scrip you have partly used against a Bill of Entry will show a face value higher than its balance; a fresh, untouched scrip shows the two equal. When you sell, what you are selling is the unutilised balance, and that is the figure a firm offer is built on. The face value explainer covers the distinction in detail.
What the status column tells you
The status is the fastest read on whether a scrip is sellable. On ScripX the statuses you will see are Issued, Reserved, and Transferred. Issued means the scrip is live in your ledger and ready to sell or apply. Reserved means it is held against a trade in progress and should not be double-committed. Transferred means it has moved to another IEC and is no longer yours. A scrip is sellable the moment it reads Issued.
Checking the balance, step by step on ICEGATE
Directly on the portal, reading your balance is a short sequence: log in, open the Electronic Duty Credit Ledger, and read each scrip's face value, balance, expiry, and status. The steps below lay it out. If you are not registered on ICEGATE yet, the registration guide covers that first.
How ScripX shows the same ledger without the portal
On ScripX you do not have to log in to ICEGATE to know where you stand. Your Scrip Ledger mirrors the ICEGATE ledger, each scrip with its face value, balance, expiry band, and status, updated as things move. When a scrip is Issued you can open a firm Sell Now offer straight from that view; when one is Reserved you can see the trade it is committed to. The status you read is the real ledger status, screened for provenance before the scrip is ever listed.
Reading expiry off the balance view
The ledger also shows each scrip's expiry, and that matters as much as the balance, because a scrip is only worth its face while it can still be applied. A scrip comfortably clear of expiry captures full value; one inside ninety days carries a small expiry adjustment on the rate. So the balance view is where you decide whether to sell now or hold. The expiry guide and the Scrip Reference Rate explain how the days-to-expiry translate into price.
Where to go from here
Once you have confirmed a scrip reads Issued with balance on it, the next step is a single Sell Now offer, or a transfer on ICEGATE if you are moving it yourself. To understand the number a firm offer is built on, read the Scrip Reference Rate. See how ScripX works for exporters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check my scrip balance on ICEGATE?
Log in to ICEGATE, open the Electronic Duty Credit Ledger, and read each scrip's face value, balance, expiry, and status. The balance is the unutilised amount still on the scrip. On ScripX, your Scrip Ledger mirrors the same figures without a separate portal login.
What is the difference between face value and balance?
Face value is what the scrip was issued at. Balance is what is still unutilised after any duty already applied against it. A partly used scrip shows a balance lower than its face value; a fresh scrip shows the two equal. When you sell, you sell the unutilised balance.
What do the scrip statuses mean?
Issued means the scrip is live in your ledger and ready to sell or apply. Reserved means it is held against a trade in progress. Transferred means it has moved to another IEC and is no longer yours. A scrip is sellable the moment it reads Issued.
Do I need to log in to ICEGATE to see my balance on ScripX?
No. Your ScripX Scrip Ledger mirrors the ICEGATE Electronic Duty Credit Ledger, showing each scrip's face value, balance, expiry band, and status, and lets you open a firm offer straight from that view when a scrip reads Issued.
